Table extraction is the part most PDF-to-Excel tools get wrong. A PDF doesn't actually contain a table in any structured sense, it just has text positioned to look like one, so the converter has to infer rows and columns from spacing and alignment. That inference is where quality differs most between tools, and it's worth knowing what actually affects the result on your end:
Tables with clear gridlines convert more reliably than PDFs where columns are separated by spacing alone. If your source PDF was built without visible borders, expect to double-check column alignment after conversion.
Scanned PDFs depend entirely on OCR accuracy, and OCR does better with high-resolution scans than a blurry phone photo of a printed table. If accuracy matters more than speed, scan at a higher resolution before uploading, or use Compress PDF afterward once the data is already extracted, rather than compressing before conversion and losing detail OCR needed.
Merged cells in the original PDF (a header spanning several columns, for example) usually carry over correctly, but it's worth a quick check since merged-cell logic is where small extraction errors tend to hide.
If a PDF mixes tables with paragraphs of regular text, expect the text to land in its own cells rather than blending into the table. Splitting a large report into just the pages with tables before converting often gives a cleaner result than converting the whole document at once.
For files with many separate tables you want as different worksheets rather than one long sheet, batch mode handles that automatically, no need to convert each page separately. If you only need a couple of specific pages out of a longer file, Split PDF can isolate them first.
